I planned to clean out my coach and pack it to go to the work rally this the morning. I got up and my wife told me she buried the zero turn mower in the mud and I needed to go drag it our of there. I got out my John Deere tractor and towed it out with no problem. Then since I had the tractor out I decided to move some big tree parts from an Oak that blew down 3 or 4 weeks ago. Laurie had sawed it into 10 or 12 foot lengths, so I could push and drag the large parts over to the burn pile. Well one of the branches got away from me and smacked a hydraulic hose on the front bucket. Now I had hydraulic oil blowing all over the place and because of the uneven lift I almost turned the tractor on it's side. I went to three hydraulic places and finally a JD Deere dealer. 60 miles later I was back with my $35.00 14" hose. That repaired, and tree parts moved, I now had to clean all of the oil off of the tractor and also the mud off of the zero turn.

At 5 PM I headed to the bank and it was closed when I got there. So I went to one of their ATM's a block away to get $300 for the rest of the week. Well after trying 3 times to get money out of the thing it finally gave me $280 in good 20's and 1/2 of the final 20. After an hour on the phone, customer service credited me for $20 and told me to get an envelope and put the 1/2 20 in the night deposit. I drove to the airport terminal and got an envelope planning to leave it at the banks on my way home. When I came out of the terminal, my Blazer quit again just like it did in Bean Station. So now I had to get one of the guys from the airport with the large pickup to tow me to my hangar .6 miles away. The Blazer is now in the hangar and the GMC is at home. It was 9 PM when I got here so I quit for today and decided to start all over tomorrow packing and cleaning the GMC. Luckily it is only about a 3 hour trip to Blaine's tomorrow.

Maybe things will go better tomorrow and I'll make it to Blaine's without incident before dark.

I'll probably end up replacing the in tank fuel pump in the Blazer when I return next week.

Heather where are you? I have another fuel pump for you to change. Maybe she will stop by and change it while I am gone. It also needs a worn pitman arm replaced.

I'm getting too old for this stuff.

Sounds like a perfect retirement day to me. Hopefully after 20 more years working I will get a day or two like that.

Retire the Blazer - it's due. Mopar minivan pumps are (in)famous for that behavior. The 'get home' is to kick the schiess out of the tank and the pump usually starts up. We found out on a Company van, it's a temp cure. As soon as the armature hits the dead spot again the problem repeats. Since, I had one of my own do the same, but after the kick got it home, I dropped the tank and put another pump in and ran it another 100K.
Assuming your horn still works, it wasn't the relay.

Retirement?? What the heck is that. I quit getting a regular paycheck back
in 1996. Started working for my wife in her flower shop till we sold it in
2010. Somewhere in between there I bought the GMC. See the USA? Yeah,
right. Between working on them, inventing tools to fix them with, GMC club
activities including V.Pres western states, and now President of GMC
CASCADERS, hosting and cooking at rallies, losing one wife and gaining
another, I find myself staring at my 77th birthday tomorrow. Retirement?
What the heck is that, anyway?

After all these stories, with all the fun we're having, the difference in
work and retirement is FUN, no matter how we experience it. I love it that
GMCers share their experiences, bad and good.

I think I will be adding the pretrip struggles to the log book. Might prove very entertaining conversations at the rallies! I find the people I have met at the rallies are great story tellers. I remember listening to Manny telling a story about how the side slide on his 23 footer came out on the trip back home....haven't laughed that hard in years.

Retirement can mean being gainfully unemployed, not being forced to get
up at 0-dark thirty and face a 20 mile, hour-long commute in the morning
rush-hour standstill.
YMMV

The days before we left for Georgia, I was planning to leave on Saturday.
Then the Redhead suggested that we needed to clean all the rocks and sticks
off about an acre we had cleared that week, so she could seed it with
grass--before we left. The guy who graded it said we must seed it
immediately, before the end of April, and that became a Requirement. That
was after I returned from Spokane on Friday.

Then, I could not skip a must-attend church meeting on Sunday (I'm the
treasurer).

I wrote Ken and asked what the consequences of another day of delay would
be. He said do what you gotta do, but delaying a day would be Bad, given
the planned tasks. So, I was out there Friday afternoon and Saturday, in
the rain, dragging a landscape rake, while the Redhead was walking behind
it spreading seed. Made it to bed by 3AM Saturday, and 3AM Sunday. Left in
the coach Sunday afternoon, undelayed, in the rain.

Oh, and that included a puncture on a tractor tire. So, I had to plug that,
too. Thank goodness it wasn't a liquid-filled rear tire.

After arriving in Americus, I think I slept for about 10 hours that first
night. I think Col. Ken thought I was sleeping my life away.

Driving away in the coach has a way of attracting the forces of Evil.

I planned to clean out my coach and pack it to go to the work rally this
the morning. I got up and my wife told me she buried the zero turn mower in

the mud and I needed to go drag it our of there. I got out my John Deere

tractor and towed it out with no problem. Then since I had the tractor out
I decided to move some big tree parts from an Oak that blew down 3 or 4
weeks ago. Laurie had sawed it into 10 or 12 foot lengths, so I could push
and drag the large parts over to the burn pile. Well one of the branches
got away from me and smacked a hydraulic hose on the front bucket. Now I
had hydraulic oil blowing all over the place and because of the uneven lift
I almost turned the tractor on it's side. I went to three hydraulic places
and finally a JD Deere dealer. 60 miles later I was back with my

$35.00 14" hose. That repaired, and tree parts moved, I now had to clean
all of the oil off of the tractor and also the mud off of the zero turn.

At 5 PM I headed to the bank and it was closed when I got there. So I went
to one of their ATM's a block away to get $300 for the rest of the week.

Well after trying 3 times to get money out of the thing it finally gave me

$280 in good 20's and 1/2 of the final 20. After an hour on the phone,
customer service credited me for $20 and told me to get an envelope and put
the 1/2 20 in the night deposit. I drove to the airport terminal and got
an envelope planning to leave it at the banks on my way home. When I came
out of the terminal, my Blazer quit again just like it did in Bean Station.

So now I had to get one of the guys from the airport with the large pickup

to tow me to my hangar .6 miles away. The Blazer is now in the hangar

and the GMC is at home. It was 9 PM when I got here so I quit for today
and decided to start all over tomorrow packing and cleaning the GMC.
Luckily it is only about a 3 hour trip to Blaine's tomorrow.

Maybe things will go better tomorrow and I'll make it to Blaine's without

incident before dark.

I'll probably end up replacing the in tank fuel pump in the Blazer when I

return next week.

Heather where are you? I have another fuel pump for you to change. Maybe
she will stop by and change it while I am gone. It also needs a worn
pitman arm replaced.

I'm getting too old for this stuff.

I think the amazing part is how cheap you got away at the JD dealer. You must have bulk hyd oil because they charge like 4.50 a qt for hydro-gard by me.

Hmm? Let's see. Whats wrong with planting grass seed so you will have
something to do in your "spare time"? Mowing, weeding, raking, thaching,
fertilizing, lots more mowing, repeat. Sounds like home to me.

Rick, I found out early on - if you mow the weeds and dandelions about three inches, they look as good as the grass.

Johnny, you know as well as I do that I had no control over the decision
process in question.

Any more than Ken could have let Laurie's zero-turn stay in the mud or let
the trees that Laurie had cut up wait until after the rally at Blaine's.
