<rallymaster wrote on Tue, 16 May 2017 11:43Retirement can mean being gainfully unemployed, not being forced to get

YMMV
Been constructively unemployed, I.E. retired, for 6 years. Only set the alarm eight times. Six of those were to staff a Boy Scouts electricity merit badge clinic I've been doing since the early 70's. That's about the only thing that is important enough for me to set it. Like most of us I've had to respond to the damn alarm for too many years. The people that know me know if they schedule something too early I may be there if I happen to wake up. If I sleep in I'll miss all the fun of being out at O'Dark-30.

I understand it and agree with it completely, Ken. However, my friends
think I don't care about how my yard looks. Headed out to pick some
wildflowers along the road...

A perfect lawn. It is a fantasy. It does not exist in reality, only in
someone's dream state. Or in a landscape of a military post or prison. Both
with inexhaustible supplies of CHEAP LABOR.
Here in Oregon, where most of the world's grass seed is grown, it is
a good cash crop. I have a house on one side of me that has sat unoccupied
for at least 7 years and is overgrown with scotch broom and evergreen
blackberries and weeds of all descriptions. On the other side is a
Marijuana indoor grow operation. They mow a few times a year, and that is
about all. So, I fight a losing battle trying to keep my yard nice.

Rescuing horses from the dog food slaughterhouse? That sounds to me like a
noble gesture. Certainly worth helping out an acquaintance with your
pickup. But, in a snow storm? That kinda puts the icing on the cake. We
have been lucky enough to spend some time at Ken's aircraft hangar while on
our Route 66 trip several years ago. His hangar is chock full of everybody
else's stuff, that he helps them out with. Attached boy Ken. America needs
a whole bunch of your clones about now.
