did someone say free BEER?

we had another earth quake with in a week. That one knocked over my empty red bull can.

the center was about a mile from me, 5.1 but not really really bad. but ???

Not really very bad but makes you wonder if the next one is going to be really big?

this makes me want to sleep in the space ship," gmc", so i know what the hell is going to fall on me when i sleep.

knowing i have a emergency home is a good feeling. a toast to you all good night from K. rock and rolling in disneyland

minor damage, water main break, and 3.6 after quake. trader joes wine bottles and a car hit a boulder and turned over.

i lost an empty red bull can and that put me in shock.

Update -

The negotiated price of the part is the cost of shipping plus a round of Southern nectar and ambrosia (RC Colas and Moon Pies) to be enjoyed at Bean Station.  Yall come.

While sharing stuff is nice, the real value is the ability to keep a far flung community in touch, and to share GMC specific experience and knowledge.  Its like having next door neighbors with GMCs.  While distance makes helping with the wrenches impractical, the advice is priceless.

This is what drew me in to the GMC, the idea that there is a community to help you along.  Technical knowledge, the black list, specialty vendors to sell replacement parts that fix original shortcomings - These things keep buying a 40 year old motorhome from being absolute evidence of mental instability.

Todd, a word of friendly advice about fueling up in California. Recovery
nozzles are a big pain in the butt and so is the swill that they dispense.
DO NOT STOP IN WEED TO BUY GAS. Take exit 14 in Ashland Or and stop at the
Tesoro station on the east side of the freeway. Fill up with alcohol free
gas. Then stretch it as far as you can going south. Have a great time. Oh,
I almost forgot. Cut a piece of pipe foam insulation about 2" thick to slip
over the fuel filler nozzle to activate the cut off switch in the pump.

I lurked this site for at least 12 years before finally buying one, and without a doubt I would not own a GMC classic if it weren't for the community. This forum brings in sinners and saints alike, from the left and the right. Gotta be some powerful mojo in these machines to transcend such differences.

And John H. - I have a '67 firebird convertible as well, ping me (PM) if you wanna share, esp if you have an interest in the OHC 6 sprint engine (I am building one).

Hello All

I do not post here often as evidenced by the fact that I have been here for 10 years and have 184 posts. But I do visit the Forum almost everyday to keep abreast of technical issues as well as some things social. I have met many of the people here in person at a few rallies and have corresponded with a few off net as well.
There have been quite a few new coach owners and many new GMCnet members as well lately. That is an excellent indication that there is still much interest in these old machines. I have also noticed a change in the postings that have resulted in slightly annoying me. I can't really put a finger on what it is but I find myself reading fewer of the postings on the net. Maybe it is just the fact that there is snow up to the roof edge on the north side of my barn and it is almost April. Or maybe it's because I have an 8 week old puppy that is disrupting sleep. Or maybe it's because I am over 60 and am now in the "old" category. Which I can't believe by the way. No matter what, I do see changes in the net. Not good, not bad, just changes. At the risk of offending everyone, I make the following recommendations.

New Members - This is a very different kind of net. It is not like a Ford F150 net or Arctic Cat ATV net. This net comprised of people who are the best source of information available on the GMC motorhome. Period. These people are also friends that spend time together at rallies, vacationing together and working together. Their contribution can not be over stated. Keep the postings relevant but have fun as well. I have been known to make my attempt at humor from time to time. But do not get snarkey, you stand only to loose out in the end.

Old Members - Thank you for all that you do. And isn't it great to see the new interest in the GMC. I see some very bright new members showing up. They will and do have much to offer. Just because we have been at this for many years does not make us an expert on everything. The day we stop learning is the day we die. Do not get snarkey, you stand only to loose in the end.

Now if I have not alienated everyone, I would like to do as I do every year and that is to invite any of you passing through my way this summer to stop for a visit. I have room for an overnight stay. I moved last year after 30 years in the last place and am still getting settled in. But I will have my barn with pit completed by about June 1st. I am about 15 miles south of Mackinaw City Michigan. I have gone from Yooper (someone that lives in the U.P.) to being a troll (someone who lives below the bridge - the Mackinac Bridge in this case).
Thanks Dan G for the rally pictures. I have been to a GMC rally in Montgomery. It was excellent as I am sure this one was.

I saw on the news that you guys had a little rumble out there early this morning. The funniest one I experienced was sitting in a San Jose office and looking out the window across a large parking lot. The cars were bouncing up and down (slightly) to the tune of the earth quake.

I will be here. In the middle of Ron Clark's 1 ton and 6 wheel disc brake
install. We can hook up to your coach in the driveway no problem. Did you
install a service engine soon light when you did your ebl install? We can
read any stored codes with that.

There is a light that was added at time of install not sure of its true purpose. Do you have any idea where Bert and Fay are? I need to get my grill mold to them but would rather not drag it all the scenic way there.

Sully,

How far south are you venturing in my great state? I'm near Sacramento and if you plan to be anywhere near me I would love to finally meet you. Also, if you have a spare set of Sully Bag hardware onboard, I could probably lighten your load a bit.

I saw on the news that you guys had a little rumble out there early this
morning. The funniest one I experienced was sitting in a San Jose office
and looking out the window across a large parking lot. The cars were
bouncing up and down (slightly) to the tune of the earth quake.

I am not sure of our exact route yet Guy. I know the first night is a short stroll to bend however that may be via Salem or maybe Salem in the am Sunday. At some point we will be at my actor brother in laws house in Hollywood. ( that happens to be the nickname I gave him as well). We will do a chunk of 101 and likely 1 prior to arrival in Hollywood. I will give a shout out once The Boss has said her piece.

Any Good Forum has its ups and downs.
You show me a marriage or business partnership that is perfect.
And a great forum is priceless!
I wish I could be of more help. However, I don't know much about GMC - yet.

Anyways, I treat some post or posters like I do unwanted commercials. I ignore them and change the station.
Life is way too short. Why sweat the small stuff.

All the Best Everyone.
Sincerely, Tony
PS I'm not perfect - But Thank God I'm forgiven. Smile

Edit - added the word "more" help.

That appears to be what many people do here, and although it is not the best way, it works. The downside is that blocking a specific person or a specific thread means we may be missing some valuable info that was shared, even though we may not like the person it comes from.

After spending the weekend thinking over the most recent events that started this thread, I feel I need to express a concern that I have over the future of this group.

I have yet to encounter a member here that hasn't had a genuine need for help, or provided some help at some point. We all deserve the right to participate in this group, but we also deserve the right to do so in a civil environment. It is up to all of us to make sure that happens, but to do so means we need to understand and follow some basic rules. I haven't gone looking for GMCnet rules on member conduct and behavior etc, so I do not know if any actually exist. If they do exist, perhaps inviting everyone to read and familiarize themselves with those rules would go a long way towards a friendlier environment here. If there are no such rules in writing, should we not develop some?

Since I became a member here only a few years ago, discussions have been more or less self regulating. This works in most cases, but has not in others. I am aware of the expulsion of one individual who caused a ruckus even though he was a big contributor to the group. I am also aware of several valuable contributors that have left because they were fed up with some of the uncontrolled "snarkiness" and general unfriendly remarks directed at some of our members.

Do we continue as we always have and risk loosing more very knowledgeable members? Or do we make the rules more clear to those who feel the need to be confrontational, with the risk of loosing their valuable input? We need to ask ourselves as a group what we value more?

I just took a look and re-discovered what I had forgot existed. The group guidelines.

http://gmcnet.org/gmcnetguidelines.html

I also want to clarify that my previous comments were not directed towards any specific individuals. After all, I am as guilty as anyone for breaking the group guidelines. I just feel we all have the same responsibility to respect each other.

After spending another few minutes looking at the forum, I realized that I can't find any rules or guidelines for the forum only users. Ssouldn't there be a set to follow, and shouldn't they be easy to find and refer to when we need them?

The confrontational individuals do not bother me that much, but it does affect the atmosphere of this group. More and more we are seeing that some members are hesitant to post for fear of ridicule or just to generally avoid confrontation. That is a situation that we all collectively need to focus on and find some way to improve. We need all the positive contribution and participation possible if we want to survive here. We all loose if we stop providing valuable info just because one individual disagrees and becomes confrontational over it.

I learned a big lesson this past week or so. Hopefully I won't repeat my mistakes.
