Hi Jim - good to know you are staying up so late. I have an email into the feller with the $100 awning, so we'll see what he has and what condition, and I get to meet another Treasure Valley GMCer.

In the meantime (yesterday) I bought a low mileage 2004 4 dr Tracker, for a commuter/Toad, so now I am hunting for tow brackets and related hardware.

Yup, just talked to him, wondering if you were the "other guy" he referred to.

Carefree indeed, I'll look and probably purchase it tomorrow and...he'll sell the entire coach for $1K. Says it it is 74, gutted inside down to the to the systems - water heater etc still in place, and up on blocks, but with "good" tires. Says the motor and trans is good.

We'll see.

Jeff,

That's more than likely you can tell him who and where I am tomorrow! That'll probably surprise him.

I like this one. How hard were they to import? The one which comes with the Mercedes/Airstream quasi-RVs seems very nice as well and is much lower profile than Zip Dee, but they don't seem to sell them in the U.S.

I don't care for awning arms on the side of the GMC.

You might put your toad request on the "swap meet" rather than burying it here under the heading of "awnings".

Espen,

If I were you, I wouldn't be giving any thought to an American awning. The
Omnistor from Belgium is, IMHO, a much better solution -- to the extent
that we went to the trouble of importing a bunch of them some years back:

By the way, the "Dethleffs Premium" (Sp???) mounting brackets worked
perfectly.

Trevor,

It seems that the 6802 has been replaced with the 6900 series:

https://www.frankana.de/Spare-parts/Awning-spare-parts/Spare-Parts-for-Thule-Omnistor-6802--6802-12V-32726-EN-FRA;jsessionid=B6B15514EE35F6A5711D6E512262A975
or
http://goo.gl/g2pxIP

They're available in various lengths, I think under that same basic number.

I chose a mounting bracket (aluminum extrusion the length of the awning
box) from the then-current on-line catalog; it worked perfectly, matching
the curvature of the GMC roof. That was for the "Dethleffs Premium
Caravan". Unless that's a known vehicle in AU, you'll have to choose
another version.

I'm more than happy with mine, but at least one GMCer had a lot of trouble
with his -- blew over the roof. He obviously was not as cautious as I am.
The first thing I ALWAYS do after deploying an awning -- any awning -- is
to stake the outer corners to the ground with strong nylon ropes. 45* from
the ends of the vertical posts down to either fence posts, trees, picnic
tables, or ground augers. I've survived 70 mph winds without damage (not
with the Omnistor).

Good Luck,
