Kuhmo is a Korean company with plants located in multiple countries including China. Mine were also made in China.
It was hoped some day that they would open a site in North Korea in the KIC. That wacko up there (Kim Jong Il) has disturbed the operations so badly in the KIC that all new investment and expansion has stopped. Also the US still has a block on all products that have any N. Korean content even if it is only labor like the KIC. So China is still is.

I have published the link to Michelin's recommendation on RV tires many times here. I do not care to get into that argument again. They will not warranty a tire more than 6 years old and they recommend a 10 replacement cycle if you have not worn them out before than. It is kind of like saying that your car or washing machine should be replaced after 3 years because the warranty has run out. If I went by the warranty length, nothing I own (house, airplane, GMC, truck, cars, tractor, lawn mower, TV, computers, etc.) is safe any more because the warranty period has run out and they are over 3 years old.

Ken I apologize if i brought up a sensitive subject, I was just taken aback when you mentioned 10 years.
I had felt secure driving with these tires considering their visible condition but after reading several threads here, I became concerned.
My driving habits differ from most here, I drive no more than 60-65 on the Interstates and seldom exceed 50 anywhere else. I am running with 70 psi in these E rated V steels and would probably have driven on them for several more years until I read the horror stories here.
Perhaps as someone else mentioned, I should not read so much. <vbg>

Mr.Apocalypse,
As I stated in my previous post I run the Bridgestone 245's.
No they dont rub, roar or cause the rig to wander all over the road.
Good in the wet too..
The thing accelerates good so I dont recon I have ruined the gearing either.
They also haven't shead any tread or blown up yet.

They suck. Had them on a minivan and they didn't last, belts separated.
I vote for Michelins. I have LTX on my truck.

My coach has P.O. installed Kuhmo 225/75R16 tires on steel, hub centered Chevy/GMC 1-ton truck wheels. The would not have been my choice, but they run nice and smooth and quiet, and I have had no problems with them. At some point in the future, I plan to switch to Eagles and BFGs. I had the coach weighed at the Pueblo Rally and all six wheels weighed within 150 lbs of each other. I run all six at about 65 psi and the coach handles and rides very nicely.
I run BFG Commercial TAs on my company pick-up trucks and have had good luck with them. The tires on my V-10 1-ton dually, utility bed work truck have only lasted an average of 20,000 miles before the tread is worn out. Not sure why.

Yes.
Some GM dually trucks from the same age as our coaches had 16 inch steel wheels. While they where available new for quite sometime, most of the new ones available now will not work for one or more reasons. The ones with the correct lug pattern and pilot hole are coned shaped and will not clear our brakes. The dome shaped Ford ones have a too-large pilot hole.
You can find 16 inch steel wheels but they will (most likely) have to be used.

Come on Dan. What worn tires of mine have you seen? The tires on my coach are barely worn. I put them on new about 3 or 4 years ago. They replaced my 12 year old Michelins.
The tires on my Blazer when I arrived in Quartzsiite had 1,000 miles on them and were installed just 2 days days before in Lubbock. The rear tires on my Colorado were new when you saw me at Elkhart and had less than 50 miles on them. I had just installed them at Tire Rack earlier that day on the way to the rally. Granted the front ones on the Colorado are now 6 years old. I just can't seem to wear them out. I have four 2009 tires and wheels in storage ready ready to go on the Colorado as soon as I wear them out. Granted I do run my tires until the wear bars show up on them or they get around 10 years old. I could use 4 new ones on my trailer but you have never seen it.
I think you are just giving me a hard time.
I probably deserve it.

I have seen several blown tires on coaches show up at rallies. They always seem to be on the middle tires and the ones I checked were well over 15 years old.
We had one separate on a coach that we picked up from a junk yard in Massachusetts and were transporting back to Indiana. We could not tell if it was 17 or 27 years old. It was also near flat when we picked it up and we had to put air in it prior to moving the coach.
The tire damage could have been from age or it could have been from them moving it around before we picked it up with only 18 PSI in that tire.
It was an interesting failure because Dick was driving and we were 300 or 400 miles down the road. He called me on the radio saying he had just thrown a fan belt. We stopped and checked the belts and nothing was wrong. As he was getting back in the coach and I looked at the tires. The one on the passenger side middle had peeled the tread completely off but it was still inflated and running on the steel cord. Needless to say we changed it before we continued on our way home. There was no damage to the coach but who knows where the tread went. I never saw it and I was following the coach in my Blazer.

Good to know! cause a slightly wider tire wouldnt be a bad idea for traction. do you have the 245s all the way around or only on the front?

That is the one that peeled on us. It was the one on the passenger side. The coach had enough other problems, like no brakes that we fixed with new steel tubing in the AutoZone parking lot, that we did not check the tires too closely prior to leaving. All we did was air them up to the correct levels and go. The one that blew did so after several hours of use in the middle of the night on the New York state toll road.

I had good Michelins in Rayne. I did change one out the left rear on the way home because it was starting to develop flat spots due to an alignment or rear shock problem. I felt it on the way down there but did not make the decision to change it until my return trip. It did not blow and is in storage in my hanger right now. I'll never using it again. I'm jsut saving the wheel.
Later that year, I did replace all of the rear shocks, did a rear alignment, and bought new tires and wheels. I did find a bad shock on the left rear.
I do keep track of all tire conditions by inspecting them twice a year. I rotate and measure the tread depth with a gauge once a year in the spring.
I have never blown a tire on a GMC. That one we picked up in Mass. that Dick was driving back was the closest I have come to having a GMC tire blow out.
Every time I transport a GMC for someone else, before starting on the trip I check is the condition of the tires. I do look at the date codes. Half the time they are on the inside and hard to see. If I can not find them outside, I'll climb under and look at the fronts. On the rears I do not bother if they are not outside and they same brand and tread condition as the fronts.
When traveling every stop I walk around and look at the tire conditions and feel the tires for heat differences.
Since it is now 2010 checking the codes with the 4 digit system in much easier. Anything with 3 digits is now over 10 years old. Under the old 3 digit system you could not tell what decade they were made in.
Tire manufactures and the feds originally assumed the tires people buy will be worn out and off the road in 10 years. Motorhomes are an exception since a lot of them are moved infrequently and parked most of the time. That is why Michelin published their letter saying if you haven't worn them out in 10 years, replace them because of their age. Why people shorten that period to the warranty length is beyond me. I'll continue to inspect mine each time I rotate them and replace them based on their condition or after 10 years.
I'm 65. If I am lucky I'll replace them once in my early 70s. I'll doubt that I'll get the chance to replace them again in my 80's.
I can't believe I let you suck me in to this debate again.
Oh well, have a good time in Montgomery. I'm watching APRS to see when your coach moves.
The 4 wheel drive quit on the Blazer yesterday. I tore up my grass along side of the driveway quite a bit after getting stuck in the snow here with no 4 wheel drive. This is the first time I remember using it since plowing through the 18 inches of wet snow in Flagstaff. I probably busted the engagement mechanism on the front axle plowing through that stuff while trying to get out of town. We are getting more lake effect stuff here right now. Have a good time in sunny Arizona and Texas.
I'm watching you.
APRS says you went to Tuscon and never returned.
