Few month ago, one of my mechanics mounted the aux. trans cooler behind the
rock shield which is mounted at an angle. I went up to him and told him to
take it off and relocate it the way we always do.
You will not see the factory mount the coolers that way as the air tends to
go around the path of least resistance and when the fan clutch kicks on the
cooler is too far to befit.
I did not learn this in my Aeronautical courses, but learned to take data
and found out. Yes the air will try to go around the aux cooler even if it
is mounted 1/2 " from the radiator, but considerably less.
