doesnt sap power from the engine,

Turns out all the energy comes from the engine, so it is ok to say you
want to drive these from electric power, but is not more efficient and
does sap energy from the engine.

engine supply's rotational energy through a belt, to the alternator (loss)
alternator converts rotational energy to electrical (loss)
alternator charges the battery (loss - to heat)
electrical drives a motor (loss)
which drives a pump (loss)

so driving electrical pumps and fans might be more fun, or more
convenient, but it is not more economical, or less load on the engine
.

and the upgraded alt allowed by a serpentine system would be more
then enough to power an electric fan and water pump...
