Dave, I did my time with Uncle Sam too and with my dad. Every time he needed a rain on the crops he loaded us all up and we went tent camping. Rained every stinking time. I hate camping. That is why I own a GMC. I do not like roughing it. We have the GMC setup so we do not rough it when we dry camp. I have everything dry camping that I have hooked up, except air conditioning. If we need air we move to a cooler spot. It took me a couple of years but I have the coach set up now so we can dry camp in style. It is not for everyone and it did not come cheap. But, I got it now so we use it when we can with no hookups. I can not afford to camp in RV parks much so we don't, except during conventions and rallies.
There are hookups available in Quartzsite. It might be tough to find a spot with hookups next week but I bet if one looks hard there will be some.
Dan
