Mike,
If the stainless steel you have the scratches in is bright then there is no
successful method of removing the scratch if it is reasonably deep, it is a
very hard metal and polishing only radiuses the edgas of the scratch and
eventually you will create a wide valley which while you have removed the
obvious scratch you will have a worse surface appearance from certain
angles. Sanding the surface would be an answer but then it would need
polishing as the sanded surface will hold grime and would be difficult to
keep clean. Polishing needed to just remove the scratch would require
professional equipment and the heat generated could distort the panel if not
carefull. My advice is to use that piece of stainless some where else where
the scratch does not matter and go and puchase a new unscratched piece it
will be easier and less heart ache and you will be more satisfied .
