That would only be true if engines would run exactly the same with 100% gasoline and with an ethanol mixture.
They do not. Whether it is the flame, the expansion of the burning mixture or the internal cylinder temperature or something else there is a difference. I have run actual tests and have found that a ten percent mix of ethanol in my Motorhome results in about 10% less miles achieved on 10 gallons of fuel than straight gasoline. That comes to 10% less mileage so I don’t agree with you.
