You are correct that silicon is an element, so are carbon or hydrogen.
Silicone is the silicon based material than is created by manufactures and these do not exist in nature. Silicon Dioxide is very common we call quartz.
These greases are silicon based as they are not organic in origin.
It is called silicone grease by some, but that is technically incorrect. It has pervaded the vernacular, like so many other things. I suppose you could call it silicone grease, because it is manufactured. Silicon grease is not manufactured using silicone, it is the other way around.
