Virgil,
I found a solar powered "Chinee Cheapie" that I bought just to see if TPMS was a good idea. I put some hook velcro on the bottom and stuck it to my furry dash cover.
I found out that I like it a lot; and it cost me all of $60.
When it had trouble holding a signal from my rearmost tires I opened it up and added another 12 inches of receive antenna.
Now it's rock stable and a welcome source of info on both my tire pressures and temps.
I don't even remember the brand but I've become a believer in the info it provides.
I suspect the antenna extension on the base station is a good way to boost reliability on any system.
There's lots of radio guys on the forum that will correct me if I'm wrong.
My point is that the brand may make less of a difference than you think.
