I was just about to comment on the fusible link topic, but Ken B covered it very well.
I don’t have the schematic in front of me but from memory if that add on breaker were to open, charge Voltage would overshoot high, That could cause secondary damage.
There was pretty much a “reason why” behind everything engineers did. Only understanding part of the picture and not the whole scope leads to problems when people try to improve on designs.
