Richard,
A glass installer friend and I removed the windshields for some SMC leaks repair and dash work.
to remove we cut the rubber gasket ( it very old and brittle ), while the dash work was ongoing the glass was being tinted.

The first glass took about an hour with some frustrations , to install DO NOT start at the center and work out, for us
it was real easy when we switched and started on the outside and work to center.

Since you want to save the gasket, you might conceder removing from center. I have not seen anyone else do this work, going
only by our experience. Good luck.
