I had one to do that once. It only happened when it got hot. By the time I
put the belt back on, it was cooled down enough to be free again. When it
would lock up, it took out the other two belts as well. Took me three times
before I finally figured out what was going on. New bearing solved the
problem. Not expensive at all. Rebuild kits available.

Never had that problem before or after.

My one year old Delco alternator bearing froze up and burned up the belt .
Thank goodness no other damage was caused when the belt went flying . Is
there a bearing problems with these alternators ?
