If I remember correctly, Dick P does not recommend anything over 40 weight hot rating. 50 weight makes you think things are better as the gauge is pretty, but in reality less oil is getting to
Engine parts as the bypass valve is open a greater % of the time. That oil gets pumped (waisting power) then released via the bypass to the pump inlet area. This is especially important in the cooling task job the oil has to do. The more fluid passing over a heat exchanger (engine parts) the more calories that can be transfered.
