my Dad had a squareback too.. for a company car! it was bright orange. I have a '59 UK beetle with semaphores (the blinker arms that pop out of the sides) now that Im restoring all original. slate blue.

had '65 Cargo Transporter that was my daily driver in the lat 80's for a couple of years. had to be on your toes in windy days otherwise you would find yourself offroad or in the opposite lane in the blink of an eye. I removed the gear reduction boxes off the transaxle and put a two litre scat engine in it. it was way way too fast for what it was but a sleeper with the original color white and hubcaped rims. that one was one of the most fun to drive machines Ive had and Ive had many muscle cars and exotics. I loved doing donuts in it because sitting atop the front axle was so cool when spinning in circles HAHaha! it would smoke the tires around corners until the massive wheelhop started. it was a wild ride for sure!

used to compete in the VW club engine swap contests with it, could change engines in less than ten minutes! part of prepping for that was oiling all the mounting bolts and was on the way home after that one day buzzing down the interstate @ ~80mph and the engine literally fell out of it while going down the road!

Ive had too many air cooled VWs to count.. my first car was a sunbug! those were great times though. I miss the baja bugs and rail jobs alot (still amazed I lived through several of those) but I think I would rather have a split window double cab pickup more than anything else. still want to put an old beetle body on a modified 911 pan/driveline to do porsche club track days with it though.

drove a 914 with a smallblock chevy transplant retaining the mid mounting that was a hoot and wanted to do that also one day.

the '59 should be a good toad one day but the GMC has quite a ways to go before that happens.

I was more concerned about where I was going to ride my Honda after we moved down here out of the mountains into the 'burbs.

I can dig it man! my Honda's are still a top priority too. lucky for me back then was Dad found a suburban neighborhood to move to that had a large moto population. my entire family rode Hondas, even Mom with her ST90! back in the day prior to video games, quads, even four wheelers. it was moto heaven! I feel sorrow for todays kids, its a hassle to ride anywhere like we used too.
