We have the fixed gauge on the wall in our Royale too. Works great.

I pulled the tank out of our coach a few years ago and had it checked by our propane supplier for our home. Glad I did. He said when he removed the gauge on the side of the tank the gasket just fell apart. So He replaced the gasket, installed a new tank shut off valve an regulator on the tank too. Everything works great. I repainted the tank and it looks like new. One more thing off the To Do List.
