Sounds like a P.O. took a short cut on his wiring. I feel that you need the green or ground wire, tied into the 110 circuit. Easy enough to run a length of green wire to the existing 110 circuit. I suggest that you do use green, so that later you will not drive yourself nuts trying to figure out what that wire does or where it goes. I had a similar problem with the missing green wire on the generator run into the coach.
Water and electricity do not play together well.
Check on Bdub's site for the GMC wiring diagram. It's small, but could help.
