I thought that Bruce had the correct answer when he said that Management was the reason for the 2.5 hour headlight bulb change. After all, they establish the design window. So I thought about it a little more. No Engineer or designer would possibly design this into their product without preapproval from an upper level. So then comes the question; How far up?

It all boils down to what the Consumer will tolerate or accept. If we are willing to pay $200.00 to have a headlight bulb changed, they will design it into the product. If we walk into the new car showroom and ask, "what will it cost to have the headlight bulb changed?", and the salesman says , "Well, it's not a small job, you need to remove 30 to 50 fasteners and some major body components", then what. Do we say, "Oh, that's ok, That's acceptable". Or do we just laugh and say, "surely you are joking, let me know when they get it right, I'll go across the street and see what the Competitor has to offer".

I owned and worked on a 75 Glenbrook for 15 years. Got tired of projects and I bought a 1 year old Road Trek, Sprinter chasse, Mercedes Diesel. One morning it just wouldn't start. I was told by the Chrysler Dealer that it was the antitheft device that was causing the problem and it would cost $1000.00 to have the electronic box in the steering column replaced. Luckily it was still under warranty. I sold the coach while it was still covered by warranties and we bought another GMC. You could do a lot of upgrades for the price difference.

I haven't checked, maybe they have changed things for the 2015 Malibu. Next time your in a Chevy Dealership ask them about changing a headlight bulb. Give them your thoughts. The Engineer may not be the problem, we may be the problem.

Cheers,
Ray R.
