Two things come to mind. The first is a Thurber short story about the bear, the moral being "You might as well fall flat on your face as to bend over too far backward." I delight in taking text files and doing search-and=replace. Redact is replace with censor. Issue is replaced with problem. Etc.

Second is an experiment which a Boeing software guy in Wichita started back in the days of store - and -forward BBS forums in the '90s (Who remembers PCBoard?) His premise was, 'charged' words and obscenities lose their shock value very quickly when they are overused. The group still exists today, many of us gather on a regular basis. There was/is one Rule: if you crosspost out of the group without permission of the writer of the post, you are dropped from it. There is no appeal or recourse. Over the years we have lost less than ten people, and have also lost our tendency to overreact to what someone may of said.
