I'm not positive that Oklahoma's brag that it has the most miles of original US-66 routing is accurate, but we do have lots of it! I don't remember for sure whether it is Vinita or Miami in NE Oklahoma that still has a stretch of original 2-lane concrete in town. Most of what remains of US-66 in Oklahoma has been relabeled as OK-66 and it remains the "Main Street" of many of the towns. There are books available to enable a person to actually retrace the old route in probably 90% or more of Oklahoma.

Every September for the past dozen or more years, a ham radio special event takes place over 11 days where stations on old 66 in various towns "get on the air" to enable others to contact these towns/cities. I have been the coordinator of the Oklahoma City operation for the past two years. Each special event operation creates its own QSL (acknowledgement) card to confirm contacts with other stations who send their own QSL card and a S.A.S.E. to cover mailing the return card. I think our Oklahoma City group contacted around 1600 or more stations during last year's event.
