As far as loading, my recommendation is to load heavy towards the front with heavy items as low as possible. There are several military sites that allow you to walk through your house and check mark what you have so that you will get a volume as well as an estimate of weight. It's very hard to overload a medium duty truck if you stick to household goods. Make sure you remove any DOT numbers if there are any since you are a private individual not subject to FMCSA inspections and guidelines--including interstae weigh stations.
