I did not realize that you first posted it. I thought it was Emery.
The English language is loaded with words that came from other languages and unknown sources. I'm glad that I did not have to learn it as a second language.
What bothers me most is the way the British and Aussies have butchered good old American English. (TIC)
I once did a 7 month assignment reading and correcting books and manuals authored elsewhere (outside the US) in the company. We were at the time the second largest publisher in the world.
My job was to read them and Americanize the English used. It was kind of boring reading technical stuff that I was not interested in. Most of the job was eliminating / changing British words like "whilst" and spelling like "Centre".
It is interesting that I did that job whilst living on assignment in France.
These days every time I get a set of Chinese instructions written in English, I have to resist the urge to correct / Americanize them and send them back to the author.
The English language is a real mess. I have heard that Chinese is also that way.
Thanks for the new word Appie.
