Check for oil leaks. One drop of oil on a manifold can produce a lot of smoke and odor. You might fabricate the rubberized "horse blinder flaps" like on the final version. I prefer the outside air source so you create positive pressure indoors and don't draw exhaust and sewer fumes in. Engine smell is better than those options especially monoxide if you run the Onan on the road. Another reason GM went to no OFF on the fan just lowest speed.
