Some years back, I nherited an animated sign atop the Babnk For Savings Builging in downtown Boermingspam.  The display was five rows eighty spotas long of 150 Watt outdoor floods.  The thing is still up there if you go through on I 65.  It was run by a PDP-8E which had 2K of memory onboard.  MAg core it was - it held memory even powered down.  The i/o was a Teletype <tm> Model 28 with a reperf unit.  Since I was Computer Savvy (I had had a Commodore PET when I took the job) I inherited the thing and actually it worked fairly well.  I ran down one o0f the old hands from AS&I, the maker, in Bellibngham WA.  He said they made about six of them.  Boards were wire - wrap using ECL chips.  There was a Sacnbe frame upstairs which held a bunch of cards, each of which controlled 8 bulbs vis triacs.  I stuck an RS-232 to 20MA adaptor in the line to the Teletype <tm> and hooked it to a modem so you could load it remotely, and then wrote some code for an
Apple II to design stuff for it. That old toy was a hoss.
Jeremy Knezek, the sign was there last tiome I ran through tiown.  Is it still being used?
