I do what Todd does, I use compressed air and clean the channels very well.
I use an aerosol dryslyde lube and spray the crap out of the felts. When
the propellant evaporates, it leaves a residue that is some kind of a dry
lube. Works well for me. One thing to check on the large sliders is the
metal edge that wraps around the movable window. When the bottom of the
window felt wears, it allows the window with the metal edge to ride lower
in the channel and the metal edge drags on the felt, making it very hard to
push. It is a sign that your window channels are worn in the bottom, even
though the sides may still be tight.
