No. The 12 volt is only connected through your buzz box (charger or converter). Your 120 volt circuits should still work. If you converter is getting hot then you are probably getting power to it. (unless it is getting back feed from the 12 volt side). Unplug the converter. Check the circuit breakers in you breaker box. Trip all of them, the mains and the individual circuits. Make sure they are on. Use a test light (even a small lamp will work) and go around and plug it in to all of your receptacles to see if you are getting power at the outlets.

Make sure that your electric water heater is turned off before doing this or you might burn out the heating element.
