Richard,
I put my Thorley's on with the original thin gaskets. After a couple of years the drivers side went bad. I replaced that one side with a Jim K Remflex one earlier this year. I didn't put any sealer on, or any locks on. I've only got 500 miles or so on it since then, but so far, working great. I ran it about 1/2 hour and re-tightened once, very tight, with a short box end for the 4 bolts, and just snug on the center bolt. You can get a torque wrench in there, but it requires a lot of contortions, possibly a universal (which will destroy the accuracy of the readings) and is hard to read, so I didn't bother. The Remflex gasket seems pretty forgiving of mis-torquing. Their instructions say a low figure (maybe 15-20 ft. lbs.) vs. 35 or 40 for the Thorley instructions, but most people on this forum said to tighten the heck out of them, and that seems to be working for me.
