Cameron,
Back to your initial question. I ran the Howell FI system on my 76 for 8 years. Smoged every two years by removing the TB, tying the harness back and putting on my smog carburetor. Fuel was provided by an electric low pressure pump powered off the Aux. tank switch via the original fuel lines. I had installed new high pressure lines for FI. The mechanical pump had been removed. About three hours R&R. Was worth it for me.
Engine R&R: I have used both the out the top and out the bottom. Out the bottom makes sense to me if one is going to work on the trans or final drive. Out the top is faster and easier but one need the trolly system on a 26 ft. Here is where I might help. I have a trolly system that I and others have used. It breaks down for transportation. I also have the support frame for out the bottom. Since I am in central CA and do travel to the Bay area on occasion, we may be able to work something out.
