FYI, Verizon also has a pay-as-you go plan but it isn't as liberal as Virgin
Mobile's. We have both. Verizon is also more expensive but it does work in
more places (larger network than Sprint.

Generally, I don't recommend the MiFi devices because of their limited range
- about 20 feet if nothing is in the way. It also won't be upgradeable to 4G
when it becomes more available in more areas. So, you get what you pay for.

A better deal is a Cradlepoint router (like the CTR35 or the PHS300) that
will take a USB modem. That would make it upgradeable and offer a better
range than 20 feet in the event you want to provide more coverage to your
friends. There will be USB broadband modems that do 4G at better prices in
15 months.

By the way, the MiFi is made by Cradlepoint for Sprint (as Terry points out,
Virgin rebrands ands resells Sprint service and products). Verizon also gets
MiFi devices from Cradlepoint. The MiFi is great to use at McDonald's so you
don't bother other guests wanting to use the free WiFi.

The PHS300 can be had for around $42 from Amazon and an MC760 USB modem from
Virgin is about $63. It's a flexible and upgradeable combination.

When Louisville gets 4G service I'm very seriously considering dropping our
cable provider for home-based internet. 4G mobile broadband and the PHS300
or CTR35 would make a dynamite connection you can take with you on the road.

My opinion.
