Matt,
Glad you mentioned this. I couldn't figure out why the nut wouldn't fit over
a copper tube I shortened to install a shutoff valve in my water supply line
until I took the line out and could see how it had swelled up from freezing!

freeze expanded the soft copper. Now, it is too large for the sweat or
flare fitting, but it isn't pipe size either.
