We have a reverse osmosis system that provides drinking water and water for the humidifier in my "guitar room". I would like to find a system that doesn't waste so much water though. We use the waste for irrigating trees and shrubs but I'd rather keep it in the system.

Steve,

If you want to keep the instruments in good condition, you are stuck with what you have.

The water coming off the RO is not really waste. It is by-pass flow the the RO membrane requires to scrub it clean. The alternative is to have a extra pump that circulates the water on the membrane surface fast enough to do the same thing, but you still have to bleed 50~100% of the output out of the system to keep the dissolved solids low enough to prevent clogging the RO (expensive). In Arizona, this extra pump might be cost effective, but you will still have water to dispose off.
