Excellent advice.
I got it off but I never did figure it out. It does have a star whee but the teeth are such that i don't think i could have backed it off.
I'm not sure where the pressure was coming from. I just kept pounding and prying but it fought me all the way. The E-brake was snug but not tight.
The brakes will get redone and I'll never know.
