Hello all,

I'm replacing my black tank and the the toilet too. Tanks and macerator plans, etc were all obtained from Duane Simmons before his illness. Please give any recommendations (and reasons why) on brand (Thetford vs. Sealand), height (does the higher height fit in the Royale OK?), and material: all china (e.g., Sealand) vs. partial china (Thetford Aquamagic V plus) vs. all plastic (Aquamagic V). I'm not particularly concerned with cost (price difference least to most costly = half tank of gas), because I need a robust toilet that can withstand road food.

Best, Mike Lincoln

if you can afford it get a tecma, it has a built in macerator, and you can add a macerator in the traditional location for a nice double blend effect. when I re-do my bathroom im gonna use that toilet. but it aint cheap thats its only drawback...

Mike,
I just replaced my original in my Kingsley (GM finished coach) with a Thetford Aquamagic Style II. It fit well in my side bath. Not sure about the Royale. It's about 3" taller than the original which helps, as you have a little more leg room. (Always had my feet against the wall before . . .) it may be a bit wider than the original, but other than looks doesn't affect anything.

The main reasons I got this model was it was in stock at Camping World, it came in Bone which matches my original bath fairly well, (better than the original one) the 3" of extra height is nice, and it's got a china bowl for cleaning, with plastic every where else. Looks like a normal toilet seat would fit come replacement time. Also liked the foot pedal flush better than the old hand knob. Finally, US made, not too far away in Ann Arbor, MI., it was about $200. So far, no complaints, but haven't used a lot other than Dream Cruise.

Hi, I bought my Aqua Magic Style Plus at Camping world; China, with one valve flush and 20" high. Suits us, as it's harder to get up and down as each year passes. I have a side bath and it fits close to the wall. Also you'll probably have to modify the mounting flange area. Take out the screws, probably rusted out, and unscrew the pipe from the tank. Clean up area, new screws and backing or whatever. I had a little trouble with the single valve flush as getting it to fill was difficult. Thetford Tech at FMCA gathering in Redmond told me how to fix. An easy fix. Mine was $200 bux on sale.

The seal I was referring to is the foam seal at the bottom. I figure that the seal is at least as old as the coach, so I'm not gonna risk re-using it. Been there, done that. Didn't turn out well...
I plan on getting a new seal & 2 sets of bolts to hold it down. Plus I already figure on the original bolts being hell to remove. Chances are they're rusted to the point that I'll likely spend all day on them. They ain't the easiest to get to.

I'm thinking that the shipping costs would be outrageous. Once you add new seals, etc, it'd be about as cheap to get a new one unless I can find one locally. I really can't afford to spend a huge amount of money right now. I can always replace a used one with a new one later on.

My point exactly.  Find someone headed West I'll send it, but it isn't worth the cost of shipping it.
