I'd like to either restore to working condition or replace the switch that
turns the light on when you open the passenger side engine access door.
Any ideas???

Ideas on how to do it or what switch is needed, or how to wire it?

I was thinking what i have is a factory thing, but it may not be. I have a
switch with a rubber boot on it that is wired to a steel light with a
retractable cord that's mounted in the top left corner of the firewall.

So I'm looking for some type of waterproof button switch to replace the
original, or if someone has any experience repairing the original.

Pete,
When my switch failed to work I sprayed it with contact cleaner and worked it a few times -- fixed (for now).
Try 2-26 contact cleaner -- the same as Duane suggests for the Onan control panel.

That is a factory installed switch. You should be able to pull the switch apart and clean the contacts or possibly just spray in some contact cleaner that you can buy at Radio Shack and other places.

I have a working switch, but the light needs some tlc. Is there a trick to taking the light apart to get to the contacts inside?
Cheers
