I had smell in my new PB when I bought it last November, where it had been stored outside (covered) for some time at the Oregon coast. Discovered two nests in the ceiling between roof and headliner. Cleaned all out and haven't had any more smell or problem that i know of.
In my home (1908) I've had mice. Pretty much got rid of them using the sonic things that you plug into 120vac outlets. One housemate had sensitive enough hearing that the "sound" bothered her, though my aged ears don't have much high freq sensitivity anymore.

Agree best is to eliminate entry points, though really that's almost impossible. Mice can squeeze through the tiniest places. Also keep foodstuffs well-sealed. Don't put grains and such in plastic bags, use tupperware or other tight-lid containers instead.
Did a lot of reading on trapping when I had the house infestation last winter. Seems general consensus is that bait is a waste of time, and best, as one poster noted, is to put the traps in the path where the mice will run, along walls as stated. I like the "sensitized" trap idea. Looks good. Still, though we had sightings daily on both floors of the house during the infestation, I think even with traps everywhere I only caught like 2 mice. After a week or so of using the sonic things though, they were gone.

Richard - If I had cats in my motorhome, I wouldn't have mice. Something is wrong here. Are you sure Fresh Cab is what is keeping the mice away? Seems to me it might be the cats!

As previously mentioned, I have been very successful placing traps around
the perimeter walls of my storage building. Strategically locate a pair of
traps facing away from each other and long sides parallel to the wall. Then
place a piece of sheet metal up to the traps and lean it off the wall. The
mice will run behind the sheet metal and into the traps. I used to keep a
little peanut butter in the shop and that seemed to work. When I ran out of
PB - the traps worked just as well. Another good place for traps is on the
floor inside of the tires under the coach. They climb tires pretty good -
especially the RWL ones!!!

Here in the Southwest, we have a problem with Pack-rats. They are actually some sort of wood rat and, like mice, are nocturnal. I don't know if this will work with mice, but I found out that lighting the underside of the vehicle will keep them away. At most desert campgrounds, the camp hosts place light ropes under their motor homes or trailers. The rats, which do their thing at night, stay away. I tried this at home, in my driveway, and haven't had a rat problem since. Prior to using the light ropes, I would set live traps and catch a rat on a regular basis. I have had limited luck with light ropes from Lowes, they drop out sections of lights after a short time, but I'm considering ordering some LED ropes which will last longer and give off more light.
The biggest problem I have is remembering to go out and plug the light ropes in every evening. I guess I could rig them up to a timer or a photocell. Again, I don't know if this would work on mice, but light ropes are cheap enough that it's worth a try.
