Hello:

My wife and I are in the process of buying a GMC coach located in the Atlanta area - not sure where yet - owner is currently out of town.

We live in Nova Scotia, so buying a coach at a distance is a little daunting for us.

I'm looking for help - to go look at the coach and perhaps take it for a short drive - probably in the next week or two.

I know that there may be mechanical issues that need attention, but my main goal in asking for assistance is to make sure that
1. the coach is worth purchasing and
2. it will at least make it to Southland Motorhome for an oil change, lube, brake check, etc. prior to the long drive home. I know it needs new tires.

Thanks for any and all help. We're really looking forward to our own GMC!

Several others in the Toronto Kijiji if you want something on this side of the border.

Doug,
Dick Patterson has a '77 Eleganza with a 455 for sale as well. I don't know anything about it, but he described it as "rock solid"

Dick is the go-to guy for engine, carb and distributor rebuilds and lives near Barrie Ont.

Give him a call at 705-325-4554

I have finally decided to bite the bullet and sell my 1977 GMC . I thought I would offer it here first before I put it on the “C” list or the “E” list. I just don’t use it enough to justify all the expense with insurance and such. I cannot get my wife into it anymore since we got our other camping set-up. It sits around to much now and after seeing all the wannabees on the site getting what they are looking for I know somebody out there would surely get a bunch of enjoyment from this motor home. It is by no means finished and does need some cosmetic and interior help. I have added a poster on the GMC Motorhome Picture site with some info described. I will answer as many questions as I can and would appreciate contact via the PM service. Thanks in advance. Jim

My wife and I had another serious discussion this morning over coffee and realized we had to choose between finishing the kitchen and/or buying a GMC coach.

I hated to admit it, but it makes more sense to finish the kitchen first. Then at least it's not hanging over my head when we want to go someplace in the coach. Besides, winter's coming and I'd already committed to building a couple of strip-built wooden kayaks as a winter project. And I really couldn't use a coach until next summer anyway!

So......when the kitchen's done, I'll be back.

In the meantime, THANKS so much for the tips about spending more up front. I was starting to get a little concerned that the coach we had picked out was a great bargain, but I wondered how much it would take to make it safe and road worthy.

All the best,

Doug

Hi Doug
When you start looking again, start here in NS, I know of a few that are either up for sale or coming up for sale in the next 6 months or so.

 Doug.

I've been sitting on the fence following the market for GMC's now for about 2 1/2 years & watching the prices slowly falling. I believe they have bottomed out due to a slight resurgence in the economy a growing interest in the coachs by the younger generation. I think now is a good time to buy even if sat for a few months before you have time to work on it.
  Regards,
  Wannabe Norm.

Watch out for "Bargain" coaches.

A while back a fixer coach was the probably best "bargain." BUT... With the current market and economy, complete coach prices are depressed. Mean while, parts and labor are not depressed. (For the most part.) SO... The best bargain is the coach that doesn't need many of the "non-depressed" items.

IE: Buy the best coach you can afford and that will be the best bargain.

While I do not think the market will go much lower, I am not sure it will start recovering anytime soon. SO... my advice is to take your time and look for the right coach. Use the time to learn more about what you want and get you finances ready to jump when the right coach is found.
