I removed the pan from the transmission to fix the gasket leak and found a small piece of metal in the pan. It is the thickness of a thrust washer and is about 1/8" thick. It appears to be the very end of a c clip(1/4" long)and slightly wider at the end. I thought it might be part of a keeper for a servo or an accumulator but they are E clips and are black in color. Looking at the transmission parts book the only C clips or spacers I see is the piston clip on the front servo and the pressure shim on the front pump regulator spring. It is not the pressure regulator shim as this trans doesn't have one (shift kit) . The transmission shop says it is too thick for a servo piston keeper. The transmission works fine but it sure is a puzzle where this piece came from. Looking at the shape of it I would guess the inside hole would be around 5/16" diameter except for the open end.
The 3 transmission shops I visited with the metal piece didn't seem too concerned. It wasn't in the pan 3,000 miles ago.
Has anyone found anything like this in their pan of a good working transmission?? Like I say it sure is a puzzle .
