DIAGNOSIS Inop wipers The Boudin cable is stuck on my original GMC
wiper motor. Impossible to actuate wiper from dash. It is stuck.
The cable appears to have seized somewhere inside as it traverses from the
dash to the hydraulic motor.
It isnt a very long run, maybe 18" I guess.

Motor works when cable is disconnected.
I have sprayed Kroil into one end but even if that works, it will rust again

Is there a good cure, short of replacing the cable?
The cable appears to be a smallish 1/8" OD by estimate.
Is there anyone who sells replacements? Perhaps with a nylon inner .

PS SWITCHING GEAR Anyone who was curious, regarding my Onan starting by
itself; I disconnected the multipin connector [maybe 20 pin] behind circuit
board box; found some contacts to be corroded;
Wire brushed what I could with small hand brass brush, and applied lotsa
conductive grease on pins. Plugged it back together.
Also applied electrician's goo [waterproof grease] to outside of connector
as wires enter socket. Wires are burried in grease from outside now.
Put it all back together and the beast starts, runs and shuts off as it is
supposed to both from inside coach and remotely.
And doesnt start by itself either.

I had (have) the same problem on my 1978. It led to my taking the dash apart... with all the plastic falling apart. I spent a few days with glue and little clamps. But I digress...

The gears in the mechanism behind the handle where worn. they would slip a little until the cable slipped all the way off the end. I tried shimming it without success. I picked up a lawn mower throttle and installed it, drilling a small hole in the little arm on the motor. The new cable is much larger in diameter so I used a longer screw to attach it to the "motor." It worked for a little while. Then longer screw broke off. Shocked

I remember someone replacing the cable with a little electric motor. I can not find the photos or recall the specifics....

Bottom line... I would like to hear any solutions short of Ken's electric wipers. I would like to get the dash back in one piece before fleet Week.

I found the servo fix you mentioned in bdub's site under Ken H. and wiper.
It is clever too.
I am looking for a OEM style Boudin cable right now.
Anyone know where one is?

I fought with control of the OEM wipers for a long time before designing the
electric conversion.

My OEM cable came to me completely warn out. I soon found a lawnmower
throttle and cable that worked almost perfectly -- only slight modification
and the mounting screws fit with no alteration. But that cable soon rusted
beyond use and the manufacturer apparently stopped producing that ideal
model.

Then I installed the electric gear motor described here
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=3398
<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showgallery.php?cat=3398>That worked
great for me and the fact that I didn't put limit switches on it didn't
bother me. I knew that if I exceeded maximum wiper speed by pushing the
switch UP, that the speed would decrease, and vice versa. SHE could never
undertand and contend with that. Then my 5'8" daughter and her family
borrowed the GMC for a trip to Oshkosh. She was driving back thru Chicago
at 6 PM on a Friday evening in a thunderstorm and couldn't manage the wipers
either.

SO, I got an ultimatum from THEM: FIX THE WIPERS!!! Thus the electric
wipers.

I find it quite amusing to help all Y'All with your wipers. I've even given
away hydraulic motors to needy souls like Stick Miller (last week), and keep
the above URL active for you. Knowing all the time that eventually most
will come begging for an electric kit. Just hope I haven't gotten too old,
decrepit and lazy to produce them by that time. :-)

I should have a kit or two with me at Du Quoin. Maybe.
