Today was the big day to get the coach inspected, I checked all the lights this morning and the horn etc to make sure there were no surprises. Yank on the E brake and put it in gear and off we go! Whoa, no E Brake? I look under the coach and there are no cables other than the one that comes off the E brake handle. Well, no way to pass inspection without a functioning E brake.
Where do I get brake cables??? No cables equals no inspection which equals no trip to DuQuoin.

I should be saving my pennies for the update kit from (???) that Jim K sells <http://appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/596>
I have all my cables in place but have zero parking brake.

I just went out and looked it over again and ALL of the cabling is gone. Nothing coming out of the rear wheels all the way up to the front. I may just get the kit from Jim K but it probably means no DuQuoin for us.
I sure wish Miguel had noticed this when he had the coach for 2 months.

Wayne,
You should look even further: Someone who removed all the cables might well
have also removed the operating mechanisms inside the drums. That will
considerably complicate your parts accumulation problem. All the other is
available in SS from GMC vendors,, but you'll probably have to get the rest
from someone converting to disc brakes.

License it in some other state that does not require an inspection. You can use my address if necessary.

Wayne,
Don't give up on DuQuoin yet.
Even if the hardware required inside the drums has been removed, that should not be a stopper. The brakes (except for the machining of the drums) are very common 11x2 Bendix. Look for parts on the rear of any old 1500 GM pickup or Suburban. Collect all the parks you can out of what ever you find. You may also need equalizers and pivots.
Someone said Sirum has cables.
If you get pressed, put the cables to the forward rears only. That should be enough to get you by. You might be able to splice together parts from some donor vehicles to do that pretty quickly.
Good Luck

This weekend I hope to pull a rear wheel and see what is inside. I would assume the E Brake lever is still inside as it fills a space and supports a spring in the whole brake assembly. Does anyone have a part number for new shoes? If mine are worn I will need some and would like to have the numbers for future use. Since I do not have any cables, S hooks etc I think we are just going to pop for the Branscombe kit. Lisa does not like the thought of living in the mountains without some sort of backup brake that would actually work in an emergency.
Has anyone installed the Branscombe kit?

Well, I just decided that I am short of time and rather than cob something together I would just bite the bullet. So the Branscombe kit is on its way. Mary Jane promised to get it out today so I will have it next week. This weekend I will pull a rear drum and see if the levers are still there and it will also let me see how much life is still left in the rear shoes.
Means that if we make DuQuoin it will be with a carb instead of EFI. It really sucks to still have to work for a living. No time for playing.

Wayne,
If we can help you with any parts inside that might be missing, let me know.
You can send us the picture of the brake system with the drum removed, then
I will see what might be missing and sen you those parts.
This will save you lot of time.
I will be around the shop working on my coach to prepare for De Queen.

Tim,
How do you actuate your Branscombe brake:
1) OEM Brake Lever?
2) Power actuator?

Hi Wayne,
As others have pointed out, it's a parking brake, not an emergency
brake.
My Branscombe kit was installed by my mechanic and works well. No
problem with the NYS inspection either. A very nice upgrade.
