Yeah, just what we need, another forum. The thing I hate about FB is that it is so clunky, and if you forget to hold ctrl when you click on a picture, you have to start all the way an the top again.

Forums can be a lot to keep track of when you post for responses...I am a member of a Mustang forum, Pontiac G8 Board and a 2nd gen Camaro forum...Phew.. I use GMCnet for mostly technical info and a lil' BullShi++ing on the side..... the Facebook page is more just Photos and bragging and trip reports..no responses needed...just "looksie what I did" for the poster. It is a lil clunky til you get the hang of it.. I find looking a pictures and uploading from my phone easier(who would've thought a phone would be easier to use than a computer).

I've got the hang of it. It is still clunky. But then so is myspace. I don't even go to twitter.

I have been a member of mysporttrac.com forum since 2001. that is the best built forum I have ever used. It would be so nice to have all of our various sites (this, photo, etc) put in a single site in a similar form, but we are fortunate to have what we have at no cost (save for the worth it donations to the photosite).

At least there isn't a whole lot of flaming here and zero fanboys!!!

I find it to be a big PITA. Someone is always directing me here to tell
me something they could have said in an email; my kids especially!
Then I have to sign in and look for one of my multitude of passwords,
etc, etc...I hate it. I have shunned all the others, successfully so far!

Dave,

After gosh knows how many years, I finally gave up trying to remember/find
PW's & started using KeePass. It's as simple or complex as you want it to
be, but always useful:

I DON'T get it!

I'm hardly a luddite (I've had a computer since 1981 -I used Visicalc was on Prodigy and Compuserve) but I've always decided on getting involved on Websites and Forums using a B.S. to actionable content ratio. To my lights, Facebook is almost totally B.S.

Don't get me started on the Twits at Twitter. Is it possible to be anymore self-involved?

I guess it's a generational thing - Everybody wants to be a star.

Ken,

I'm not familiar with KeePass. In fact, I've never heard of it.
How does it work? Do you just store your passwords only on another website? With all the Phishing, spam, etc nowdays, I gues I'm just real skeptical. Is is actually secure & safe?

Thanks

KeePass isn't network based. Of course, it's always possible to put some
code in that reaches out to a server somewhere to upload information. But,
not so with this application. Your information stays on your computer. You
just set a master key (password) that someone would need to access the other
passwords stored within.

This type of application has been around the OSI community for quite a
while. Apple adapted it for the Mac OS many moons ago and renamed it
Keychain.

Just don't forget the master password and don't make it so easy to guess. A
hint on passwords is to not use anything that could be found in a
dictionary.

Gary,

KeePass is a free program which maintains a deeply encrypted database
containing your passwords. It can also contain the associated URL's and
macros for logging onto those web sites. And other notes you may want to
include. The database (or multiple ones) is itself password protected.

Once you've entered the master password you can merely highlight the web
site you want to access and that site's password is then temporarily
available (for a period you preselect) for pasting into the site's logon
procedure. The macro feature should even automatically access the site and
perform the logon, but I've never taken the time and effort to set up that
feature.

When adding a new site (or changing one, of course), the program will
generate a password for you that is more complex and secure than you'd
create yourself. That, and every entered password, is evaluated for
security so you know how difficult it would be to decrypt. Since KeePass is
your "memory", the most complex password is as easy to use as the simplest.

I keep a copy of the program and my latest database on a thumb drive for use
on any computer I want to use. It will run from that drive without
installation.

I've tried other such programs in the past, but only KeePass has proven
simple and effective enough to keep me aboard.
