I have a friend in Spokane, WA who is looking for a really nice, finished coach. If any of you know of one on the west coast, send me a pm (glwork at mac dot com). Thanks, they are great people and will make a good addition to our community. They will also average down our owner age a bit!

Gerald, check out Jim's (Hasbeen) coach:

http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&th=13254&start=0&rid=73

It is in Arizona. I have seen this coach and it is nice. Has a Fuel injected 403 and 3" exhaust if I recall.

I suspect you'll need to define what the buyer thinks is a "finished coach." Many here, on the net, do not think ANY coach is "finished." (A "really nice coach" might be a little gray also.) To be "finished" does it need to have a brand new motor, transmission and running gear? How about new paint and interior?

Basically:

What is important to him and how much is he willing to spend?

I'm somewhat reluctant to post this on the net, as many have a negative view of Cinnabar. I believe most of those views are due to Wes Caughlan being something of a curmudgeon and non-participatory in all things GMC, not because his organization does bad work. The guy really knows GMCs, he just expects to be paid for that knowledge and won't deviate from OEM. I can't blame him for either. Motorhome magazine thought well enough of him to have him author Tech Talk for a number of years.

Cinnabar has a couple of restorations advertised on their website that are probably worth looking into by your friend. The nice thing is the 18 month unlimited warranty. I bought my coach from Cinnabar and they do excellant work, albeit strictly OEM, so don't expect a 4-bag system, front wheel spacets, offset bushings, non-Michelin tires etc. They do go through every system, repair and replace as needed and try their best make sure nothing is going to go wrong up for at least 18 months. I did end up using the warranty once in the first 18 months for a bad brake booster and Wes arranged to have the work done at my home when I still lived in San Diego.

When I was still in Michigan, I would have Cinnabar do some of the "heavier" jobs and they always did great work at what I felt were reasonable prices. They like the other folks have a large investment in facilities and parts so I never underestimate the cost of business. My coach was originally restored by GM at Cinnabar when Clarence Buskirk was still there--and of course that's another whole story! Wes is indeed a "different" character, but once you get to know him a bit you will find that you can communicate back to him just like he does to you, and all seems to be fine. I loved working with Ivan, but he is no longer there.

Y'know, I totally forgot that John Ruff's ASU coach was for sale. At the price he is asking, it is a steal. the previous owner reportedly spent $75K on the refurb. the coach drives nicely, and the paint scheme, albiet ASU gold and maroon, is well done inside and out. If I hadn't already owned my coach, I'd have considered buying it.

Gerald,
There is a beautiful coach here in Sierra Vista for sale. It is a
Canadian coach, purchased 6 yrs ago by the current owner. Used once
(he travels in a GM Flexible because it has room for his golf clubs).
It is a real stunner and has been stored in one of those garages that
are show car palaces. You know, checkerd tile on the floors, juke
boxes, '56 Crown Vic, '55 F-100, old car signs and refinished gas
pumps etc. He only used the coach a couple of times and when I was
checking it out, it fired right up and ran beautiful, as did the
genset.
I can do some legwork for you friend if needed, or I can put you in
touch with the owner and step out of the way. It is a '76 twin bed
Edgemont IIRC.

Steven,

I saw the info you posted about the '76 twin bed
Edgemont for sale in Sierra Vista. I would like to upgrade to a larger coach with rear sleeping quarters. My brother is going to buy my Birchaven from me so I am looking to replace it with a nice GMC. If you could pass along a way I could get in touch with the owner I would really appreciate it.

Hey Richard

I am looking for a 78. Your description sounds interesting. Sure would like to see a couple of pictures of the inside facing forward and aft. And a couple of the outside.

What majority of the shops dislike about Cinnabar is Wes's bad mouth.
They mentioned you as a good source for repair as you follow his rules.
He no longer is on the staff of Motor home magazine.
I know Bob Lamey and his friend gets along with Wes. DJ Eberheart, Ken Fry.

Benny,
I'm betting I'm wrong on the mode. I was leaning towards getting an
Edgemont and checked this one out and I bet that influenced my memory.
What I do remember for sure though is that is is a very pristine
coach. I don't have his number, it's unlisted so I'll have to find a
way for you to contact him if you're interested.
