I have decided to remove this old A&E awning. Anyone have any hints
and/or warnings about removing a full length awning. My main concern is
whether the awning, in it's rolled up position, is spring loaded.

I was going to mention that -- let nature take care of it.

Another method is to unlock it, pull it out a couple of inches, spray the
rail/awning with a soapy mixture, and then get on one side and pull. If you
have a partner to push from the other side, even better. The only thing
holding the awning in the rail is the rope that is sewn in on the edge. It
just slides into place.

Yes it is still spring loaded when in it's rolled up position. Be careful I
rapped my knuckles real good removing mine.

JR,

With a helper, or at least a step ladder under the extended awning roller,
disconnect one of the arms at the lower end and use it as a long lever to
unwind the spring. Otherwise you need to temporarily pin the end of the
center axle, remove the arm, and then use vice-grips to control the spring
after removing the pin.

Yes! That is the one that got me when we removed it. You need to release
the spring somehow first.
