Thanks, Jim. We will try to contact you on our way done the i5. Will be around the second week in Sept.
Our adventure has been a bit like both of those books. North America is really beautiful when you get off the free/toll ways. And, the people along those roads seem to have a very different attitude about life in general - slow down and enjoy the journey instead of speed up, rip someones lips off and dread tomorrow and the same old grind. Courtesy abounds on the two lanes. Unfortunately, rudeness and stupidity all too often show up on the free/toll ways.
It is interesting to me that the few negative attitudes we encountered were expressed most vigorously as we approached the hand full of so called "media" centers where many of our political "leaders" hold court and those spewing the 24 hour a day blabber "news" seen to be concentrated. Hummmmm....sounds like a correlation......

Jerry, I have been following your trek with much interest. Kinda reminds me
of two books I have read "Blue Highways" and "Zen and the art of motorcycle
maintenence" fantasies about the American open road. Keep up the good work.
If you are near Salem, give me a heads up, maybe we can meet along the I-5
corridor & swap some lies or whatever.
