I finally got around to putting a hinge and 2 gas springs on my engine hatch. Does anybody have an alternative for the original fastening clips? Seems like there should be a single twist version folks have installed . . . the OEM clips are great but require multiple turns.

Any ideas?

As I recall, Kelvin had grafted some automotive pop up type hood latches
with a remote release, I don't recall if it was cable operated or elec.
solenoid, but it seemed to work well. Many others have similar setups.

This is what we used when we did our interior renovation, got them from a marine
liquidation store. They look and work great.

Rusty,

You're ahead of me on the hatch lifts. I put them on the rear access doors
years ago, but just haven't gotten the urge up front; I still use a conduit
prop.

But I did replace the hatch latches years ago:

The latches are from Southco. They're available from many woodworking
suppliers, and perhaps McMaster-Carr. There are many variants. For use
under carpet (recommended because most are not quite air tight), those with
flush release buttons are preferred.
Not cheap. http://www.southco.com/browse/lever-latches-7326.html

I used a hood latch with a remote cable. Thought about using a
solenoid but with my luck the battery would be dead about the time I
wanted in there.<G>.............Terry
