I have been trying for sometime to figure out what to do with my original
air system on my 1978 Royale that the PO had modified trying to upgrade it
from and EL-1 to an EL-II system. When I got the coach all the wires going
to the compressor and wires from the height control valve had been cut off
by the compressor. Since I am an electrically challenged one I new I had a
real mess on my hands. But, thanks to those of you who responded to my air
system questions a couple of months ago I found a solution that works for
me. Particularly, big thanks to Bob Burkitt and John Shotwell for their
input.
What I ended up doing is installing a wireless air system. All I needed to
do was figure out which wire was the hot wire from the battery, ground wire
and ignition wire in the mess of over a dozen cut off wires that were laying
by my old compressor. Even the electrically challenged one was able to
figure it.
So now I have an air system that I can control my Quadra Bag System with a
remote control that is about the size of a pack of cigarettes. It has two
programs that I can set whether I am running heavily loaded or a light load.
I can raise or lower each side's air bags independently of the other or both
at the same time. When I am finished dry camping and have previously raised
or lower one side or the other I can press program I or II whatever I need
and the coach rear ride height readjusts to height I have set for travel. I
can even stand outside of the coach and raise or lower the rear of the coach
with the remote.
It is nice to finally have the air system working so that I don't have to
use my plug-in compressor to manually air up the bags. I can now travel
with the air bag valves open. If I were to loose any air the system
automatically comes on and readjusts to the programed air pressure setting I
have it set to. If the air system compressor were to fail I have it set-up
so that I can still manually fill the bags with my old plug-in compressor.

who makes this thing? I am interested as my solenoids all seem to leak. maybe a nice thing to add to my qyadrabag.

Interesting system. You can take the remote when dumping the tanks to get the last little bit out of the tank. (Some coaches need this.) I like the programed settings but it is pressure feed-back system, not height feed-back. Just fine if you understand the difference.

I like the wireless idea, kinda..
But am I the only one that notices that there are no level sensors?
So it goes by air pressure?
I'm not interested.

i think you miss the point, about 1/3 of the GMC air systems are not
working and have leaking valves, controls,pipes, so they are driving around
with schrader valves which have no pressure controls.
this system allows these folks to get back some of the features of the GMC
air bag system.
leveling
auto ride control
etc
I don't think it is going to replace the GMC system.
just do it because you can

To All,
I learned about this while trying to fix our defunct air leveling system on our '78 Royale. It took me a day to put the new system in. I talked to a tech rep at Air Lift about it, and also questioned him about their system that DOES have the auto leveling magnetic sensors. Problem with that system is that it levels BOTH (in our case) sets of wheels at the same time, not individually, like this one. The system I put in does not auto level the coach, but you do that with the remote control and air pressure readings. I told him they should somehow combine the auto leveling system with the one I bought, so we could have the best of both worlds.
I set up the #1 program (button) for the road. I push that button, and the coach assumes the right height, according to the cutouts in the frame.
I put my system in a few months ago, and then Gary contacted me, via Bob B. about it. So far, it has been an easy and effective way to solve the problem of air bag inflation. It's the cats' a** to level the coach at a camp site.
On a tip from the Air Lift tech, I got mine through Amazon.com for about $325.00. The kit is #72000.

Still foggy in my mind.
So what are you giving up with this system (what can the stock system
do that Gary's can not) ?
Gary, how long does your new system take to go from 'on the ground'
(totally un-inflated) to max. height?
Also, with this set-up all the 12 volt Skinner/Honeywell air valves
are removed completely?
