After a short loop from SE Mich to Albany NY and return by way of Ottawa ON, we are both very tired of the OE cruise control. It sure beats nothing, but is sorry when compared to almost anything else.
I happen to have at least one complete kit to install an original Dana/Perfect Circle Cruise Control (this was the unit long before that division was sold off to Rostra).
What worries me about installing it on the coach is that the servo is vacuum. The diaphragm of the servo is WAY smaller than the OE and I am concerned that there will be enough vacuum to pull the throttle to WOT -if needed.
Has any installed one of these antiques or is anybody using one?
Don't tell me to buy the new Rostra, I have to save ALL my coach money for new wheels in two years.

Matt, I haven't played with one of those, but most cars of that era would have had similar vacuum issues as the GMC. Granted the GMC engine may be pulling more load and could have low vacuum at times, but a coffee can sized reservoir should be enough to help or one of those mini assit pumps that you find on ebay for Saabs and Mercedes could be an inexpensive assist. What is it that you don't find acceptable about the OEM system? I converted mine to a resume feature for about $15 and find it very acceptable now.

Bob,
How did you do that?
My oem control works fine , but I would like to have a resume feature.
I think I can scrape up $15.

Gene--what I did was to secure a resume solenoid that is attached to the cruise unit on later units. At the time, you could purchase the solenoid by itself, but apparently that has become difficult to find lately. However, I recently went to the pick & pull and bought several units with the solenoids attached for $5 each. You can find them on most GM cars in the 80's. If you can freely spin the shaft, you most likely have a good one. If you get a 3 terminal unit, it will support the dash light. A 2 terminal unit will work but you won't have the dash light. Given all that, you can just unbolt the resume solenoid and screww it to the rear wall of the engine compartment next to your current unit--that way you will know you have a working transducer. Then you will need to do some minor re-wiring which you will see on the attached link. The current stalk is totally compatible with the resume feature since it has the required intermediate contact in the push button. It works flawlessly.

The mid '80's Toyota Camery my son used to have had a small vacuum pump to assist the cruise control. I should have pulled it off before it went to the crusher.
