There was a ceremony out here today where Speaker Pelosi, Secretary of
the Navy Ray Mabus, and Mayor Gavin Newsom signed the document handing
over Naval Station Treasure Island over to the City of San Francisco.
... and I was finally able to corner the right people to get my parking
permission!
Some of you have heard me mention this before but I finally have the
approvals needed.
We have space out here on the island during Fleet Week, the dates are
October 7th through the 10th. It's going to be dry camping but the
location can't be beat.
This is just a low-key get together, not a full-blown rally. We have
space to park as many GMC as are interested. The location has a view of
the Golden Gate and the City. Buses run frequently and take you right
into and back from downtown for shopping, dining, etc. It's about the
easiest way I can think of doing San Francisco in a GMC.
This is the weekend before the convention in Vegas, but I picked it
because it's Fleet Week in San Francisco. Perhaps this works well for
those of you coming from the North but everyone's invited. I'm told
that Fleet Week's going to be a big one this year with several U.S.
Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Navy (celebrating their centennial)
and possibly some foreign ships available for tours. We'll even be able
to view the parade of ships from our coaches on Saturday.

Of course, there's also the Air show (each day!) featuring the U.S.Navy
Blue Angels and many other acts. Even United Air Lines will be flying a
747 in the show. Watching this from Treasure Island in your GMC will be
a treat.
For the wine aficionados, there will be a "TI Wine Fest" on the 10th in
the adjacent space. There is also a local winery in the old Navy
Exchange that may be open for a tasting that weekend. The Yacht Club
will be having a dinner at their facility at some point and since I'm
Staff Commodore there, we'll be able to join them.
If you're interested in joining us, send me an email and I'll start
putting a notification list together. This is a "dry camping only
space" but there is a convenience store and a "bar and grill" restaurant
on the island.
