Anybody for a Woodward Cruise? [message #95375]

Those that are local to south east Michigan know about this. It's bigger than a football Saturday in Ann Arbor. If you want to read about it:<http://www.woodwarddreamcruise.com/>

It is officially the 21st. It actually starts Friday night and they have stragglers around until Sunday morning.

Those local and want a great show, we could try to hook up somewhere and drive the route in convoy (like three of us did last year. I've been more than a few times, and the best way to see it all is through the windshield of a GMC. My Second choice would be the back bedroom with all the curtains open and a swivel chair (tail gunner?). The only thing better would be to stand in one place and walk both sides of the 8 mile long road (16 mile loop). (I still haven't figured out how to do that.)

There is more amazing hardware both on Woodward and park in the roadside lots than you can really manage to absorb. I'm glad DW likes driving so I can look out the window.

I will be out of town for a while, but trying to read the forum when I can find wire. There should be lots of time to pull things together next week. All you need is a running coach, or someone that has a running coach that you can hitch a ride on.

How long did it take you to make the "loop" last year and at what time of day?

I was at a vendors party at about 9-1/2 Mile Rd. 2 years ago. This was before I bought the GMC. At about 6pm we hopped on the free bus to go to 13 Mile Rd. and it took the bus 3 hours to get there traffic was so bad.

Even though I've put over 5,000 basically trouble free miles on the GMC in the year I've had it, I don't think I want to have it in that traffic jam.

I did take it to the Downriver Cruise though.

If i go this year it will probably be earlier in the week with one of the hot rods or regular car.

I am considering bringing my wild rover up to the dream crusie but that is still TBD.
If I have the time, I will email you and hook up so we can cruise woodward in 1970's style!

Maybe Ken or Gary will correct me, but we met on 8 mile about 10:30 or so and drove two loops before 3pm. We stuck in the full left lane and it was very rare that we waited for traffic other than stop lights.

I'll have my GMC set up at my Dentist's, Dr. Zamler Family Dentistry, a small lot with room for 1 GMC and 6-8 of my friends vintage cars. (25627 S. Woodward, just north of the zoo about .2 miles, on the west side of Woodward, across from the Fresard clock tower). All are welcome to stop by for burgers and beverages. Not enough room to park another GMC there, but could park at the zoo and walk up. There is a closed restaurant just north that you might be able to park in as well. Also, in the next day or two, will post about having a Golden Corral Lunch after Wodward and before Duquin sometime. Want to look at some of the other rally days and pick something in betwee.

Since my rig is still a W.I.P. I'm going to be lounging in the back of my buddies Deuce and a Half. He takes out the troop transport benches and slides in a couple of couches. With the canopy and a cooler full of refreshment next to me I'll have the best seat in the house. Very Happy

The best part is no stop and go. He keeps about a 100' lead in front of him and leaves the clutch out in low gear. The thing just crawls along at a steady state.

There's not much I miss about Michigan but the Woodward Cruise definitely is one of them!

Ron, did the V10 blow the plug out of the head or did the plug come apart ? I've heard of both, and so has FORD. Unless it has a gasillion miles, I'd be visiting the dealer.

I heard that the V9 problem with fords was due to dull plug hole tooling. Nothing in wrighting to back it though.

As I read the thread, we are currently 2.
Last year each loop was about 2 hours and we drove 2 full loops.

What to meet at the McD's at 8mile and Woodward again?
About 9:30~10?

Here is som info from GM about the Woodward Cruise:

The GM Performance Division will be located at the Northwest corner of Memorial Park in Royal Oak, Mich., just North of 13-Mile Road on Woodward Avenue from Aug. 19 – Aug. 21. Displays include the GM Performance Division Mobile Rig with vehicles and a GM Powertrain engine.
Chevrolet will be located in Birmingham, Mich., along South Old Woodward, and in front of the 555 Triangle, where Old Woodward meets Woodward Avenue on Aug. 21. At that location, show goers can see the following: GM employee classic cars; Chevy Racing display featuring racing show cars, pace cars and new 2010 Chevrolet vehicles (Cruze, Camaro, Corvette ZR1, Malibu, Equinox, Traverse, Silverado); Chevy Winner’s Circle photo trailer, where people can get their pictures taken with their favorite Team Chevy drivers via “green-screen” technology; Chevrolet Volt display; and a Cell Phones for Soldiers display and drop box.

Hello all,

We did the Woodward Dream Cruise in our Caddy 500 powered 78 Eleganza II a couple of years ago. It took about 4 hours to make 2 1/2 loops around the Woodward Ave "circuit".

Several folks came out to talk to us as we were stopped in the cruise traffic. There are still many GMC MH fans and former plant workers in SE Michigan.

We had the skirts off the Four Bag system on the rear suspension and several folks came up and examined the rear air suspension as we were stopped.

We put a seat up over the engine hatch and three of us rode up front. Susan served drinks and snacks as we rode along, looking at the cars and talking to those that came up to us.

It was a lot of fun and we have fond memories of the cruise, friends, onlookers and of course, all the cars.

This is the third plug to blow out of the bore. They take the coil with
them. I have 179k as of this weekend so I doubt I have much recourse....

Met with Craig on Dream Cruise. He was quite the host with burgers, beer
and brats...is anything else necessary. My brother and I hung there for an
hour or so then walked back the three miles in the rain... I had to head
back but I understand it cleared up.
